UNI-T 'Do'athlon Committee launches ‘Run 4 Life’ |
 The UNI-T 'Do'athlon Committee presents the perfect opportunity for students, staff and community members to run, walk, or cycle their way towards achieving fit and fabulous health in the New Year.
The University of the West Indies (UWI), the University of Technology (UTech) and Children and Community for Change are partnering to host the UNI-T Do Athlon/Fun Run on February 8, under the theme ‘Run for Life’. The Do Athlon will engage the University’s academic competitors and community partners in a fun and wholesome competitive environment. Participants stand to win a variety of prizes, including book grants, small bursaries, trophies and certificates.
Proceeds will be contributed to the restoration of the Sir John Golding Centre’s rebuilding fund, the Cultural Studies Community Development Fund and the Children and Community for Change Spring Village community programme.
The race begins at 6.30 a.m. at UTech and ends on the Mona campus. Both the 5-kilometer run/walk and the 10-kilometre cycle will accommodate competitive and recreational athletes.
The committee is inviting students, staff, alumni from both universities and community members from August Town, and all the surrounding communities to participate in this event. Use this event to herald the start of a new spirit of wellness and community recreation; it will also get your heart in shape to celebrate Valentine’s Day 2009.
The UNI-T Do Athlon is guaranteed to become a must attend annual sporting event; we encourage you to register now, so you do not miss it.
The registration deadline is the 31st January 2009, 5:00 p.m; late registration closes the 6th February, 5:00 p.m. There will be no registration on the day of the event. Entry forms are available at the UWI and UTech Sports Departments; Institute of Caribbean Studies; UWI Students’ Union Gym; University Township Office Bryce Hill Rd ; JAAA Office, August Town. You may submit registration forms by fax or return them to the above locations.

2K7 Inaugural Fun Run/Biathlon draws community together |

The inaugural UNI-T Fun Run/Biathlon held on Sunday February 11, 2007 was a huge success. The event attracted over 120 participants in a range of events, from biathletes to walkers to wheelchair participants. Winners in nine categories, including top biathletes, top male and female runners, and top wheelchair competitor, were awarded cash prizes totalling $65,000 , trophies, medals, certificates and UNI-T T-shirts (sponsored by the University Development and Endowment Fund).
The event, dubbed “ Run 4 your life ”, marked the first ever staging of a road biathlon sporting meet jointly hosted by the two tertiary institutions, the University of the West Indies and the University of Technology , Jamaica . The UNI-T Fun Run/Biathlon was routed through the communities of Papine, Mona, August Town and Elison Flats with the aim of promoting wider social harmony and wellness through exercise.
